Have you ever experienced a new caliper rubbing against the rotor after installation? It's an issue that can be tricky to detect visually. We recommend a simple step that is often skipped to ensure smooth operation after replacing a rotor and/or caliper: rotate the rotor post-installation to ensure it spins without interference.
The Root Cause: Damaged/Bent Spider
In our experience, the culprit behind the caliper rubbing against the rotor is often a damaged or bent spider. This issue is typically subtle and challenging to quantify accurately (see picture below). If you have followed the proper bolt torque sequence for caliper and rotor you should evaluate the spider.
